Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140November 18, 2020
Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140 met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, at the St. Joseph Parish Center. Regent Marge Beckman called the meeting to order. Vice Regent Kathy Schneider led the prayer and members recited the Opening Ode and Pledge to the Flag together.
Draping of the Charter was held for recently deceased members Patricia Schroeder and Alice Apple.
A special prayers for members was said and members offered special intentions. At the January meeting a rosary will be said for those members who have died and a rosary was not said for them at the funeral home due to limited visitation due to COVID-19.
Secretary Pam Schneider called the roll of officers and read the minutes from the October meeting.
Treasurer Rose Rasche gave the Report of the Treasurer.
An application was read for a new member and she is invited to attend the January meeting.
Scribe Kathy Bachman gave the Report of the Scribe. She read resolutions on the death of members Pat Schroeder and Alice Apple.
Quarterly reports followed.
Financial secretary Betty Mehringer reported that we currently have 339 members. In the last quarter we had four deaths and one new application.
Treasurer Rose Rasche gave her report.
Auditors Jane Werner, Mae Kleeman and Martha Matthew found the books to be in order.
Reports on Special Committees followed. Vice Regent Kathy Schneider reported that cards were mailed to members in the nursing homes. No visitation is allowed yet.
Under Social, no 50th wedding anniversaries were acknowledged this month. The Board decided to stop with a monthly attendance prize.
Under Unfinished Business, Vice regent Kathy Schneider reported that the D of I members helped at the Moose Bingo and will be scheduled to work again on Nov. 13. Workers have been called.
The Dressing Fundraiser was a great success. One hundred and thirty-seven gallons of dressing were sold and a large number of members helped with the preparation and work. Kathy Schneider and her husband, Allen, were thanked by the membership for all their work and coordinating.
Under New Business, State Regent Mary Seibert, sent information from the State Board meeting. Circles are reminded to turn in special activities. The State Convention will be held April 30 and May 1, 2021. In 2022, the State Daughters of Isabella organization will be 125 years old. The state charity, St. Elizabeth Coleman Center, is asking for help with winter coats in sizes 3T, 5T for girls and 5T, 8T, 10T and 12T for boys. Check out their Facebook page for up-to-date information from them. They will not be holding a baby shower for baby items, and will instead have a coat drive and winter clothing drive.
The Circle Board met before the regular meeting and decided to cancel the Christmas Dinner this year due to COVID-19 concerns. There will also not be a regular meeting in December. The Circle will resume meeting in January 2021. Financial Secretary Betty Mehringer and Assistant Secretary Chris Schuetter will be collecting dues for 2021. Dues are $20. Members with last names beginning with letters A-K are asked to send their $20 check, with a stamped self-addressed envelope to Betty Mehringer at 1744 W. Ackerman Road, Jasper; while L-Z are asked to send their check and envelope to Chris Schuetter at 2452 N. Mill Street, Jasper. All Catholic women are invited to join the Daughters of Isabella. The Circle will still be sending a Christmas gift to the active and retired priests in the Circle. A donation will be sent to St. Joseph Parish, Jasper, for the continued use of the parish center.
The Jasper Circle will host a Card Party at the Jasper Moose Family Center on March 3, 2021.
Auditor Jane Werner has elected to resign from her position. She was thanked for her service and members were asked to help in the search for a new auditor.
For Good of the Order, Vice Regent Schneider read from the writing by the National Chaplain on the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. She gave an overview of the commandment and the next reading at the next meeting will be on the first commandment.
Financial Secretary Mehringer read the receipts of the meeting.
The meeting was closed with members reciting the Obligation, Peach has Your Face Prayer and the Closing Ode. The meeting was adjourned.
Mary Jo Hart was the November birthday winner. Raffle winner was Rose Rasche.
The next meeting will be Jan. 11, 2021, at St. Joseph Parish Center at 7 p.m.
