Ctriskindl opens annual market

FERDINAND — Trumpeters will herald in Christkindlmarket during its opening ceremonies from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16. Christkindl will make her appearance at this time. The Monastery Bell Choir, children’s candlelight procession, St. Ferdinand Church Choir and Forest Park High School Choir will entertain. This outdoor candlelit gathering is free and open to the public.

Traditional to opening ceremonies in Nuremberg, Germany, the Christkindlmarkt will be held on the west side of the Monastery Immaculate Conception’s Crypt doors. There will be a bake sale inside the crypt after the ceremonies. Dinner will be held in St. Gertrude Hall (advanced reservations required) at 7:15 p.m.

Markt booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17, at six locations in town, Markt sites are at the Ferdinand Community Center, Tri-County YMCA, Forest Park High School, Ferdinand American Legion, Ferdinand Elementary and the Monastery Event Hall.

There will be over 200 booths of folk art, antiques, juried hand-crafted, food, wine, live musical entertainment all day, free shuttle service between markt sites, tours of the Monastery Immaculate Conception and Black Forest organ grinder. The live Glockenspiel will be at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. At the FPHS site, lights will be given on the grotto after dusk on the grounds of the monastery. Admission is free.

“Holiday Cabaret on Strings” Marionette Theatre will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Forest Park Junior-High School Auditorium. Admission is free.

“Sounds of the Season” Celebration Singers, a 60 voice choir, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Goodwill donations are accepted.
