Crystal site of car-vs-deer collision

CRYSTAL — A motorist was able to drive her car away from the scene of a car-versus-deer collision Thursday morning east of Crystal.

Jeffery S. Chatman, 57, Crystal, was westbound on State Road 56 in a 2004 Chevrolet Impala when the 5:20 a.m. accident occurred 500 feet east of County Road 575E, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy said the Chatman Impala collided with a deer that came onto the highway from the north, with front-end damage to the car estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

The sheriff’s department was unable to locate the deer after the collision.
