VINCENNES — An SUV-versus-semi crash late Friday night south of Vincennes killed one motorist and injured the trucker.

Pronounced dead at the scene of the 11:05 p.m. accident at U.S. 41 and St. Thomas Road was 18-year-old Evan J. Twitty of Vincennes, according to Indiana State Police.

Authorities said Twitty was eastbound on St. Thomas Road in a 2006 Honda CRV when, for unknown reasons, he failed to yield the right of way and drove into the path of a 2016 International tractor-trailer that was northbound on U.S. 41.

After impact, police said, the tractor-trailer left the east side of the roadway and overturned. The semi’s driver, Paul Brandle, 49, Hawesville, Kentucky, had to be extricated by firefighters.

Brandle was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Vincennes Police Department, Vincennes Township Fire Department, Johnson Township Fire Department and the Knox County Coroner’s Office assisted.
