County road reopens near conservation club

From Local Sources

HUNTINGBURG — County Road 100 West in Huntingburg is now open after being closed for more than two years.

The road opened to traffic Friday evening, Dubois County Engineer Brent Wendholt said.

County Road 100 West had been closed since spring 2017. Heavy rains hit the area in late April and early May of that year and exposed a drainage problem with the dam at the nearby Huntingburg Conservation Club’s lake. Because there was too much rain for the dam to handle, the water washed away some of the bank around the dam beneath the road.

To solve the problem, the Huntingburg Conservation Club had a new culvert installed, which was done earlier this month. County crews lowered and reconstructed County Road 100 West, which is the dam. The lake level has also been permanently lowered, from a depth of 24 feet to 19.6 feet.
