County reports 6th COVID-19 death

JASPER — The Dubois County Health Department reported today the county’s sixth death related to COVID-19.
“We mourn the death and extend our prayers and sympathies to this individual’s family and friends,” said Dubois County Health Officer Dr. Ted Walflart. “This serves as an unfortunate reminder to all of the Dubois County community about the importance of following the recommended guidelines to stop the spread of this virus and help protect our most vulnerable neighbors. We cannot stress enough for you all to wear a mask when around others, practicing social distancing, and wash your hands frequently.”
The county health department also reported today two new COVID-19 cases. Of the county’s 248 cases, 196 have recovered. A total of 2,078 Dubois County residents have been tested.
According to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s COVID-19 Dashboard, the Jasper hospital has submitted 1,431 tests. Of those, 1,254 were negative and 22 are pending. The hospital notes that a patient’s address will determine what county reports the positive case.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported today 389 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 41,746 cases. A total of 2,327 Hoosiers have died from the virus and another 189 probable deaths have been reported.
