Corn for a Cause

Paul Ficker of Jasper prunes corn stalks in his garden on the land of Tony Dick of Jasper on Thursday. Ficker has been gardening for about 15 years, starting a few years before he retired. “When a person retires, they always say, ‘don’t sit down,’” Ficker said. “You need to have a plan for every day.” He used to sell his produce at the Jasper Farmers Market and now sells to people he knows and donates food to Jacob’s Village, a community where one of his children, who has special needs, lives.
