Copays waived for furloughed federal workers

LifeSpring Health Systems, formerly Southern Hills Counseling Center in Jasper, announced Wednesday that in light of the ongoing government shutdown, all copays and deductibles for furloughed federal employees and their families will be waived.

“As a part of the health safety net for the community, we want to make our services as accessible as possible,” said LifeSpring CEO Dr. Terry Stawar. “For those feeling the financial strain of the shutdown, the cost of health care should not become a burden as well.”

The LifeSpring Board of Directors approved the measure at a board meeting this week to cover all federal employees, federal contractors and their dependents for the length of the furlough and 45 days following. “The health of the furloughed government employees and their families should not suffer while they are working to ensure all governmental services and agencies continue. We know the financial impact on these workers and their families won’t end as soon as the furlough ends, so we want to make sure we continue to help as they sort out their finances,” Stawar said.
