Construction-lane driver arrested for OWIJune 24, 2019
From Local Sources
JASPER — Police accused a driver who ventured into a closed construction lane with impaired driving early Sunday.
A Jasper Police Department officer assisting other units with an intoxicated pedestrian in the vicinity of Third and Newton streets at 3:38 a.m. was warned by police to look out for a car driving in a closed construction lane.
The officer jumped onto the sidewalk for safety.
Once stopped, the driver, John W. Carroll, 26, 1300 Dewey St., Jasper, appeared confused and disoriented, according to police.
Carroll failed field sobriety testing and his blood alcohol content later tested at .158%, according to police.
Authorities booked Carroll into the Dubois County Security Center at 7:13 a.m. on charges that included a preliminary Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated. Police said the impaired driving charge would be elevated to a felony because of a prior conviction for the offense within the last five years.
