Committee announces chain saw trainingFebruary 18, 2019
The Four Rivers Forestry Committee and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry is offering “Chainsaw Training for Woodland Owners” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2.
The registration fee is $40. Class size is limited to 12 participants and advance registration is required. Participants should meet at 8:45 a.m. at the Pike State Forest office, 5994 E. State Road 364, Winslow.
The chain saw training will be taught by Joe Glenn, certified trainer. The class will have classroom and outdoor demonstrations of personal protective equipment, chain saw safety features, and introduction to felling and Timber Stand Improvement techniques.
Participants must be age 18 or older and should dress for the weather conditions. They should bring a hard hat with a face guard, hearing protection and boots. If their hard hat doesn’t have a face guard or ear muffs, they may bring safety glasses and ear plugs instead. Every participant will have the opportunity to fell a tree.
Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided to all preregistered participants. Door prizes, including personal safety equipment, will be awarded at the end of the training. Door prizes are donated by John’s Tractor and Tom’s Lawn, Garden and Appliances.
