Lauren Caswell (18) has been a key part of the Heritage Hills softball progam and helped lead them to a sectional championship in 2018. Caswell announced this week that she'll be playing collegiate softball at Southeastern Illinois College.

A Q&A with Heritage Hills senior Lauren Caswell who will be playing college softball at Southeastern Illinois College.

What was the biggest factor into your decision to play sports collegiately? The biggest factor is that softball is a sport I love and I wanted to continue to play as long as I'm allowed to.

What stood out about Southeastern Illinois and what made you choose that school over others you visited? I bonded really quickly with Coach (Maggie) Calcaterra. I enjoyed her as a coach and I saw that she would get me to where I would like to be in school and athletically.

During your time at Heritage Hills, who or what do you feel most prepared you for playing sports in college? I feel like my parents and coaches helped me to be the athlete I am today. Also, I feel like Coach (Adam) Zollman has helped me improve in my strength.

What was your biggest accomplishment during your time at Heritage Hills? As of right now, I feel like my biggest accomplishment is being named to the All-District team and winning a sectional championship.

If you could describe your high school athletic experience in one word, what would it be? Amazing — I choose this word because of the people I have been around and winning games that people didn't think we would.
