College Bound: Gillian Blessinger

During her time at Jasper, Gillian Blessinger helped lead Jasper to back-to-back sectional championships and also earned an all-conference nod along the way. Blessinger will be staying close to home as she'll golf collegiately with the Oakland City Mighty Oaks.


A Q&A with Jasper alum Gillian Blessinger who will be golfing collegiately at Oakland City University next year.

What was the biggest factor into your decision to play sports collegiately? My love for the game was the biggest factor in my decision — I knew I would be upset without it, so I was glad to have the opportunity to continue my academic and athletic career.

What stood out about Oakland City University and what made you choose that school over others you visited? When I was on my visit to Oakland City for the first time, I instantly felt at home. I visited multiple other colleges but no other school really gave me the same feeling. OCU also offers a great business program in which I know I will grow to my fullest potential in my major.

During your time at Jasper, who or what do you feel most prepared you for playing sports in college? I think the Indiana Junior Golf program prepared me the most — the program allows golfers to play in various tournaments all over the state during the summer so it was a great way to play different courses, longer yardages, make lots of friends and meet coaches from various colleges.

What was your biggest accomplishment during your time at Jasper? I think my biggest accomplishment was being able to play in the golf program and maintain above a 4.0 GPA for all four years.
