Club sets trap shooting days for area youth

JASPER — The Jasper Rifle and Gun Club will be opening trap fields at 2 p.m. each Sunday from Sept. 23 through Oct. 28 for youth shooters to participate, learn and shoot. Youth may attend any or all of these dates. The club suggests new shooters attend at least the first and second week to learn the basics.

Activities will be supervised by National Rifle Association certified instructors and coaches. Youth will learn shotgun safety, the rules and scoring for trap, and trap shooting fundamentals. Each youth shooter may shoot two rounds (50 targets total) of trap each week. JRGC requires a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian be on file for each youth. Youth may bring their own shotguns, or borrow one of several youth shotguns that will be available. Shooters may bring their own shells, or buy 12- or 20-gauge shells at the club for special youth prices.

Because of the support of the Friends of the NRA and Jasper Rifle and Gun Club, the cost of a round of 25 trap targets will be $2 and a box of shells will be $3. These prices only are available during these events.

With enough youth interest, JRGC will sponsor a competitive youth trap shooting team in the spring. There are many local, state and national competition opportunities for youth trap teams.

Parents are welcome to attend. For more information, email or call Steve Haggh at 812-482-9013 or Joseph Jones at 360-975-9284.
