Reward offered for Riverwalk vandalismJune 6, 2014
From local sources
JASPER — The Community Strike Force Against Crime is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for defacing a tree on the Riverwalk.
Red and black spray paint was used to paint a heart symbol as part of an “I love you” message on the trunk of a tree. A citizen using the Riverwalk on Thursday evening reported the defaced tree, which is just east of the Dave Buehler Plaza, according to Mayor Terry Seitz.
“The heart symbol would indicated this was a message expressing love while the act itself shows contempt for nature and disdain for the great public asset we know as the Jasper Riverwalk,” Seitz said. “I detest vandalism of all forms and we’ll treat this as a criminal case.”
Anyone who recognizes the meaning of the message or who may have observed an suspicious activity is asked to call Jasper police at 482-2255 or the department’s anonymous tip line: 481-COPS (2677).
