City of Jasper welcomes summer interns

JASPER — The City of Jasper has hired two new interns for the summer of 2020 to assist with community projects in the coming months.

The Community Development and Planning Department welcomes Nicole Hentrup as its 2020 summer intern. Nicole, a Jasper native, will be a senior at Purdue University this fall where she will continue her studies in civil engineering. Under the supervision of Director Darla Blazey, Nicole will assist with the multi-modal transportation plan and research zoning to support a strong retail presence in the downtown area. Nicole will also work alongside the engineering and stormwater departments by participating in on-site inspections and site visits.

The Jasper Legal Department welcomes Kyra Helming, from Ferdinand, as its 2020 summer intern. Kyra will be a senior this fall at Indiana State University where she will complete her studies with a communication major and political science minor. She plans to attend law school starting in fall 2021. Under the supervision of City Attorney Renee Kabrick, Kyra will provide research assistance on many topics dealing with public health and sanitation as well as public peace and safety. Kyra’s primary tasks will be research and drafting with particular emphasis on a new ordinance that provides greater clarity for Jasper citizens regarding property maintenance.
