'Christmas Vacation' to return to the Astra

From Local Sources

JASPER — The Christmas comedy classic "Christmas Vacation" is returning to the Astra Theatre in December.

Next Act, Inc., the 501c3 that owns and operates the Astra Theatre, will present the movie on Saturday, December 15, 2018.  Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online in advance at www.AstraTheatre.Eventbrite.com or, if available, the night of the show at the doors.

Show time is 7 p.m. and the Astra's doors will open at 6:15 p.m.

First released in 1989, Christmas Vacation has become a Christmas classic and a December staple.  It stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, and Randy Quaid, and follows the Griswold family as it orchestrates a big family Christmas which, predictably, turns into a big disaster.

"This will be the second showing of Christmas Vacation at the Astra—prior to renovation, the film was shown as a fundraising effort and quickly sold out," said out-going Next Act president and a founding board member, Marc Steczyk.  "Not only is it a beloved movie, but, since we encourage people to dress as one of the characters, it's, truly, a fun experience, and we expect that tickets will move quickly."

Tickets for upcoming Astra Theatre events are still available for Elf on December 1, nineties rockers The Why Store with special guests Breathing Rm on December 8, and for the final (and FREE) Will Read and Sing for Food event (titled "The Last Chicken Dance") on December 21.

All tickets for Next Act, Inc., events at the Astra Theatre can be purchased directly at www.AstraTheatre.eventbrite.com.

The Astra Theatre is owned and operated by Next Act, Inc., a 501c3 that raised nearly $2 million dollars since forming in October of 2014—all of which was used to create an endowment in support of the venue's perpetual sustainability, purchase the facility, and then completely renovate it.
