Christkindlmarkt features live Glockenspiel

FERDINAND — A live Glockenspiel, or cuckoo clock, will be showcased at this year’s Ferdinand Christkindlmarkt, Nov. 16 and 17. Performances will be held at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. both days at the Forest Park High School Practice Gym Markt, the site for the Christkindlmarkt’s free all-day live entertainment.

Singing and dancing in a re-enactment of a German cuckoo clock are performers decked out in dirndls and lederhosen. The dancers will twirl as the chimes ring at the Olde World heritage market. After shopping, geschmacken, and enjoying this musical entertainment, shoppers can visit other markt sites.

Other markt sites are the FPHS Junior High Gym, FPHS cafeteria and lower commons, the Tri-County YMCA, the Ferdinand Community Center, the Monastery Event Hall, the Ferdinand Elementary Gym and the Ferdinand American Legion.

Bavarian specialty foods and an array of Christmas wares, antiques, quality hand-crafted and primitives await the public at Ferdinand’s Christkindlmarkt Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16 and 17.

The Christkindlmarkt, a German heritage market, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday with over 200 vendors at six markt sites.
