Chester R. Bayer Sr., 68, Huntingburg, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Brookside Village Senior Living Community in Jasper.
He was born in Jasper on April 22, 1945, to Jacob and Bertha (Gunselman) Bayer. He married Brenda K. Grigsby on June 7, 1969, in French Lick. She died July 11, 2010.
Surviving are two sons, Chester Ray Bayer Jr. and wife Vonda of Birdseye and Jason M. Bayer and wife Julie of Huntingburg; daughter Nancy McCutcheon and husband Archie of Birdseye; three sisters, Kathleen Crawford and Loretta Jean Underhill of Huntingburg and Matilda Sturgeon of Ferdinand; three brothers, Donald Bayer of Winslow, Ronald Bayer of Dale and Livinus Bayer of Jasper; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jonathan Bayer; three brothers, Floyd, Lloyd and Irvin Bayer; and two sisters, Pauline Lane and Ardella Pulley.
Mr. Bayer worked in the maintenance department of the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg for 28 years and also worked in the machine shop for OFS Brands for 15 years. He was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church in Huntingburg.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in New Life Pentecostal Church. Officiating will be Pastor Howard Geck, Pastor Bret Eckert and Pastor David Harold Bayer. Burial will be in Birdseye Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and after noon Wednesday at the church.
