Chamber warns of recent scam

From Local Sources

JASPER — The Jasper Chamber of Commerce is warning the community about a recent scam attempt reported by a Chamber member.

A man named Shawn Hendrix from Los Angeles recently attempted to purchase a large amount of material from a local business and ship it to Hawaii. Hendrix said he had a preferred shipper he wanted to use and said he would prepay for the material with a credit card and asked that the business go ahead and pay the freight cost and then bill him.

“It seemed sketchy so we started digging and it turns out it’s a world wide scam where they use stolen credit cards to receive goods and then end up sticking you with the entire material cost and freight charges,” the business wrote in an email that was sent from the Chamber to members of the Jasper and Dubois County business community.

They added: “If they contacted us, they have already or will likely contact other local businesses.”
