Authorities are investigating the death of a man found deceased at the Camelot Inn in Jasper, and Indiana Child Protective Services was called to the scene of an impaired-driving arrest just outside Jasper’s northwest city limit.
Members of the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department spent two hours Monday night at the scene of a sawdust trailer fire behind MasterBrand Cabinets’ Plant No. 22, 624 W. Third St., while firefighters from Birdseye, Celestine and Jasper’s department dealt with grass and woods fires and Huntingburg’s fire department had a false alarm.
A woman’s report of an assault early Sunday resulted in a man’s arrest on a serious felony battery charge in Jasper. Police also made five impaired driving arrests during the weekend and investigated break-ins at Jasper storage units.
A Friday night report of loud, disruptive people in a room at the Econo Lodge Jasper, 75 Indiana St., resulted in the jailing of six individuals on drug-related charges and the referral of one juvenile to the county juvenile probation department.
An Indiana State Police trooper arrested a Loogootee man Wednesday night in Huntingburg and charged him with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction for that same offense.
