Car-vs-deer crash occurs in Birdseye

BIRDSEYE — Damage topped $5,000 in a passenger car-versus-deer collision early Wednesday in Birdseye.

Jessie L. Huffman, 25, Birdseye, was westbound on State Road 64 in a 2014 Ford Focus when the 4:05 a.m. accident occurred 400 feet west of Walnut Street, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy said Huffman was unable to avoid his car’s collision with a deer that came onto the highway from the north.

The deer was found deceased at the scene.
