JASPER — No wrecker was needed after a passenger car-versus-deer collision early Friday east of Jasper.

Steven R. Buchta, 38, Loogootee, was eastbound on State Road 164 in a 2017 Subaru BRZ when the 2:53 a.m. accident occurred 500 feet west of Greener Road, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy said the Buchta Subaru hit one of a number of deer that crossed the highway into his path.

Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000, but the car was able to be driven from the scene.
