Car strikes dog west of Ireland

IRELAND — Police report working a passenger-car-versus-small-dog accident Thursday evening near the county’s western border.

Michael J. Howes, 56, Petersburg, was westbound on State Road 56 in a 2016 Toyota Camry when the 7:23 p.m. accident occurred 500 feet east of County Road 900W, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said a small dog ran into Howes’ line of travel and he was unable to avoid a collision.

Damage to the passenger-side front of the Camry was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
