JASPER — A Saturday morning report of a car running off a road and striking a retaining wall resulted in the driver’s arrest.
The Jasper Police Department was notified at 6:20 a.m. about the accident on 15th Street just east of Mill Street.
Officers who investigated allege the driver, Manuel Valtierra, 20, 3828 N. Portersville Road, Jasper, had been operating the 1987 Cadillac while inhaling toxic vapors.
Police say Valtierra was taken to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for treatment before being booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 10:39 a.m. on preliminary misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated and inhaling toxic vapors. He posted bond late Saturday afternoon.
Damage to the private property was estimated at $3,500.
