JASPER — A motorist who failed to notice high-water signs Thursday drove his car into closed flood gates.
Jamey L. Rohlman, 45, Jasper, was southbound on Old Huntingburg Road in a 2001 Mercedes Benz C320 when the 11:50 a.m. mishap occurred south of County Road 250S, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy said Rohlman had failed to notice a high-water sign leaving Jasper. Then, the deputy added, Rohlman’s attention was diverted when his car struck and damaged the closed gates across the road.
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
The sheriff’s office said the Dubois County Highway Department made repairs to the gates.
All low-lying county roads have now reopened.
