From Local Sources
JASPER — Police called early Sunday to a Jasper hotel arrested a Kentucky man on preliminary charges related to a battery.
The Jasper Police Department responded at 4:15 a.m. to the report of a female having been battered in a room at the SureStay Plus, 951 Wernsing Road.
Police allege an investigation determined Eric A. Evans, 25, Madisonville, Kentucky, had battered and choked the female victim and had prevented her from calling for help or leaving the room.
Authorities say a neighboring hotel guest heard screams for help and called the front desk.
Officers reported observing visible injury to the female.
Authorities booked Evans into the Dubois County Security Center at 8:09 a.m. on preliminary charges that included a Level 6 felony count of strangulation and counts of domestic battery, criminal confinement and interference with the reporting of a crime.
