JASPER — Units of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential alarm activation early Wednesday afternoon.
The 12:48 p.m. callout sent firefighters to the Thomas Bachman residence at 617 E. 14th St.
Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang said a loaf of bread left on top of the home’s stove ignited but Bachman’s wife used flour to extinguish the fire before department trucks arrived.
There was minor damage, with 29 firefighters and three trucks at the scene for 30 minutes.
Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services responded and the Bachmans were treated for smoke inhalation.
The Jasper Police Department also assisted.
