Burn ban possible for countyOctober 14, 2020
By Herald Staff
The Dubois County fire chiefs and the Emergency Management Agency are currently monitoring the dry conditions in Dubois County.
The county is not currently under a burn ban, but the potential for fires to go out of a control is a major concern, according to an EMA news release.
"The ground and vegetation is very dry, and along with the expected winds this week, will make it extremely easy for controlled burns to get out of control very fast," states the news release. "We are requesting at this time everyone refrain from doing any type burning with the exception of: campfires and recreational fires that are continuously accompanied and enclosed in a fire ring with dimensions of 23 inches in diameter and 10 inch high or taller."
EMA is also reminding residents that burning trash is illegal in the state.
"Please be responsible if you must burn," the release states. "Take all precautions necessary to prevent out of control fires, and as always please contact the Dubois County Communications center and notify them if you plan to burn brush or other outdoor vegetation on your property."
The fire department chiefs are currently monitoring the situation and if conditions continue to deteriorate, a burn ban could be issued soon.
