Bulk leaf collection begins Monday

JASPER — The Jasper Street Department will begin streetside bulk leaf collection on Monday, Oct. 26. Leaves must be raked and available for pick up no later than 7 a.m.

In a press release, the department reminded residents to keep leaf piles close to — and not in — roads and curbs. Putting leaves in roadways and curbs prevents water from draining to the inlets and causes water to sit in the streets.

The department requests that citizens avoid raking twigs, trash, rocks or other debris within the leaf pile as these items damage the vacuum machines.

"There will be no set day as to when your leaves will be picked up," the release reads, "the collection workers will make their way around the city on a daily basis."
