Buechlein earns Eagle ScoutOctober 29, 2018
Boy Scouting’s highest rank, that of Eagle Scout, was presented to Nicholas John Buechlein at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Aug. 19 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland. He is the son of John and Amy Buechlein.
Boy Scout Troop 185 Scoutmaster Fred Feltner welcomed everyone to the ceremony, and Dennis Prechtel served as master of ceremonies. The colors were presented by Chris Hedinger and Carter Smith. Father Joseph Erbacher gave the invocation. Isaac Heim, Keaton Prechtel and Noah Willoughby served as escorts for Buechlein. Scout readers were Andrew Hedinger, Keaton Prechtel and Noah Willoughby. Eagle Board of Review members included Mike Fritch, Eric Hedinger and Brad Willoughby. “Give Me A Scout” was read by Mike Buechlein, godfather, and Jane Merder, grandmother, read “It’s Only a Pin.” Feltner delivered the Eagle Scout Charge.
Buechlein began his Scouting career with Cub Scout Pack 130 at St. Mary Parish, where he advanced from Tiger to Webelos Scout. He earned the Arrow of Light Award as well as the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei religious awards. Buechlein crossed over to Holy Family Boy Scout Troop 185 and was in the Flaming Arrow patrol. He served as patrol leader, troop quartermaster and troop librarian. He completed 33 merit badges and received the Ad Altare Dei Religious Emblem.
Buechlein is a member of the Order of the Arrow and Venture Crew 185. He participated in a whitewater rafting trip to New River, West Virginia, a fishing and canoeing trip to Quetico National Park in Canada as well as a hiking trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. For his Eagle project, Buechlein designed and constructed five target houses and bow hangers at the Patoka Lake Archery Range.
Buechlein is a sophomore at Jasper High School and is on the football and golf teams. He is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, where he is a server.
Buechlein is the sixth Eagle Scout in the Carl and Rose Buechlein family, which includes Charles Buechlein, the late Archbishop Daniel Buechlein, Michael Buechlein, John Buechlein and Mark Buechlein. He is the first third-generation Eagle Scout in Holy Family Troop 185.
