BRETZVILLE — Authorities preliminarily charged a Bretzville-area man with felony battery after investigating a report that an argument had escalated into a serious battery.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department was called to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center at 1:02 a.m. Saturday to speak with a male victim who was being treated.
According to the sheriff’s department, the victim and Casey D. Watkins, 42, 943 E. State Road 64, Huntingburg, had been drinking earlier, on Friday, and an argument developed and then escalated, with Watkins allegedly striking the victim in the face with his fist.
The victim was allegedly rendered unconscious when Watkins then struck him in the head with a steel-toed boot.
Other individuals at the location took the victim for treatment.
While investigating, deputies took Watkins into custody and located the boots allegedly used in the battery.
Authorities booked Watkins into the Dubois County Security Center at 6:11 a.m. on a preliminary Level 5 felony count of battery with a deadly weapon resulting in serious bodily injury.
