A Boonville man will make another run for the Indiana Senate.
Republican Ted Metzger has announced his plan to run for the District 48 seat in 2014. Official filing for the seats on the 2014 ballot opens in January.
“Our current legislators have lost their way and no longer represent the people of southern Indiana,” the 57-year-old business owner said in his announcement. “For the last 14 years, I have been fighting in the trenches on a local level as a concerned citizen and grass-roots activist.”
District 48 includes Bainbridge, Boone, Cass, Madison and Patoka townships in Dubois County and portions of Spencer, Pike, Warrick, Gibson and Knox counties. The current senator in that position, Democrat Lindel Hume, has announced that he will not run for another term.
Metzger ran for the District 47 senate seat in 2010, narrowly losing to Democratic incumbent Richard Young. With the redistricting changes that went into effect in 2012, Boonville and other portions of Warrick County were moved into District 48.
Metzger is a U.S. Air Force veteran and a longtime member of the American Legion. After his military service, he enrolled in postgraduate studies under the GI Bill and earned an associate degree in air conditioning, refrigeration and heating technology from Ivy Tech Community College. For the past 34 years he has owned and operated American Cleaning Services, which provides commercial cleaning services to chain stores, offices and medical facilities.
He has earned the Independence Caucus’ Vote of Endorsement; the caucus is a conservative grass-roots caucus comprised of individuals across the nation who evaluate candidates. His grass-roots efforts have earned him the Defender of the Constitution Award.
“I am a constitutional conservative from the working class who believes it is time for our government to learn to live within its means,” he said. “I understand the importance of keeping the first and second amendments intact, and I will work tirelessly to defend our family values our traditions, and our freedoms during my tenure at the Statehouse.”
Metzger and his wife of 40 years, Melissa, have one son, Travis, who also lives in Boonville.
