Bombers tune up with blowout

From Herald Staff Reports

With the Prospect League playoffs upon them, the Dubois County Bombers seem to have located the ideal blueprint for postseason momentum. Hit hefty, pitch efficient and win big.

That’s been the Bombers’ trend over the last three games to end the regular season, including Monday’s 10-2 whipping of the Springfield Sliders at League Stadium in Huntingburg. In their last three games — all wins — the Bombers have racked up 46 hits while their starting pitchers have gone at least seven innings in each contest. Ryan Billo (3-3) went a couple better Monday, as the University of Evansville hurler fired a complete game. He scattered eight hits and fanned eight without walking a batter.
Billo operated with the comfort of an immediate lead, as the Bombers’ Jeff Zahn rapped a two-run single in the first inning to drive home Landon Curry and Zach Long, who both reached on infield singles. Dubois County (36-24 overall, 16-15 second half) gashed open the game with a seven-run third inning. Curry and Long fulfilled their duties as the first two hitters in the Bombers’ order both produced three hits. Zahn, Cody Daily, Austin Nyman and Bo Ausmus each added two hits for Dubois County.

The Bombers tangle with the Terre Haute Rex (38-22) tonight at 7:15 at League Stadium in the first-round Western Division playoff game. Tickets will be available at the gate for the game.
