Birdseye Library schedules May events

BIRDSEYE — The Birdseye Branch Library has several activities planned for May.

An art class for home-schooled students will meet from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 2 and May 16. Students will be focusing on a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathemathics  project. The last class will be the end-of-the-year party. The class meets on the first and third Thursday of each month through May. Homeschool will resume in the fall. Contact the library about next fall’s homeschooling program. Preregistration is required.

The book club for adults and high school students will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. The book, “Zookeeper’s Wife” by author Diane Ackerman, will be discussed. “She Got off the Couch” by Haven Kimmel is the book choice that will be handed out for June discussion. Newcomers are always welcome to join the group which meets the first Tuesday of each month. Extra copies of the current book are available at the library.

Storytime and crafts will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May  9. Children of all ages are invited to listen to a staff member as she reads a story and helps the children with a Mother’s Day craft. A snack will be provided.

Saturday at the Movies for kids will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11. The featured movie will be “The New Lego Movie 2.” Popcorn and a drink will be available.

Toddler Tuesday will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. A staff member will help the littles put on a tea party. An afternoon is planned with a tea craft, music, tea sets, lemonade and pastries. Parents are asked to bring a change of clothes or bring their children in play clothes.

Saturday kids’ craft time will start at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Join a staff member in making a Memorial Day craft. Refreshments will be served. Preregistration is requested and children under the age of 8 must bring an adult to help with the craft.

Saturday at the Movies 2 will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25. “New Patrick” is the featured movie this month. The library will show a movie for teens and tweens on the fourth Saturday of each month. Popcorn and a drink will be served. Movies are rated PG.

A summer learning program starts May 28 at the library.

An adult craft club will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28. A staff member will lead adults in Part 2 of April’s nautical craft. Participants will be doing the wine classes that go along with the nautical seashell wine bottles. Refreshments will be served. Preregistration is required.

A new summer program, “Chilling at the Library,” will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 30. Attendees will go outside by the picnic table for popsicles, summer activities and learn about the events and happenings at the library this summer.

A nurse will be available for free blood pressure checks each Thursday in May from 2 to 4 p.m.
