Birdseye firefighters tackle highway blockage

BIRDSEYE — Members of the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department broke out their chain saws Monday evening.

The department rolled into action when the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office called for assistance clearing a tree that had fallen on State Road 145 south of Anderson Valley Road south of Birdseye.

One truck and 10 firefighters were on the scene about 50 minutes according to Fire Chief David Smith.
