Birdseye assists with Crawford woods fire

From Local Sources

ECKERTY — Units of the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual assistance to English firefighters Wednesday afternoon, helping to corral a woods fire south of Eckerty.

The 1:43 p.m. page sent firefighters to the 6500 block of Governor’s Trace Road, across the road from Schwartz Family Restaurant.

Birdseye firefighters said a fire of unknown origin started in a field and spread into the woods. Firefighters halted the blaze’s spread after a 4-acre area burned.

Three trucks and 11 firefighters were on the scene for an hour.
