Baseball, softball sectionals setAugust 23, 2017
From Herald Staff Reports
The realignment to the high school baseball and softball postseason will prompt a change in scenery for both Jasper and Southridge. The IHSAA announced its sectional groupings Tuesday for baseball and softball in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
In baseball, Jasper bumps up to Class 4A and into a field with Castle plus Evansville schools Harrison, North, Central and Reitz. Southridge shifts back down to Class 2A for the next cycle in baseball and softball, and the Raiders will enter a sectional field in both sports with Eastern Greene, Linton, Mitchell, North Knox and South Knox. Neighboring Forest Park remains in its familiar 2A sectional field with Evansville Mater Dei, North Posey, Perry Central, South Spencer and Tell City.
Also in baseball, Heritage Hills will be in a five-team 3A sectional field with Boonville, Evansville Bosse, Evansville Memorial and Mount Vernon. The 1A baseball sectional for Northeast Dubois remains unchanged with Cannelton, Springs Valley, Tecumseh and Wood Memorial.
In softball, Jasper stays in 3A and will be part of a five-team sectional with Pike Central, Princeton, Vincennes Lincoln and Washington. Heritage Hills is also in a five-team 3A sectional grouping with Boonville, Bosse, Memorial and Mount Vernon.
In 2A softball, Forest Park’s sectional field gets a little tougher with the addition of Tecumseh, which moves up from 1A to make a seven-team sectional. Tecumseh’s exit from 1A leaves Northeast Dubois in a four-team 1A sectional field with Cannelton, Springs Valley and Wood Memorial.
