Baseball sectional pairings announcedMay 5, 2019
From Herald Staff Reports
With the IHSAA baseball sectional tournament scheduled to begin shortly, the pairings have been announced to see who will face who in the postseason.
Here’s a look at each area team’s sectional draw.
Jasper, Class 4A at Bosse Field: Jasper will have a rematch of last year’s sectional awaiting as the Wildcats (15-3) will face defending sectional champion Castle in the semifinal as both teams have a first-round bye.
The Knights handed Jasper one of their three losses earlier this season with a 9-3 victory in Newburgh. Jasper has already defeated fellow sectional foes Evansville Reitz and Evansville Central this season.
Southridge, Class 2A at Mitchell: The Raiders (10-4) will open up postseason play against the host Bluejackets in the very first game of the sectional.
Southridge defeated Mitchell in last year’s opening game of the sectional before ousting Linton and North Knox en route to the sectional title. The Raiders have not faced any of their sectional foes yet this season.
Forest Park, Class 2A at S. Spencer: The Rangers (8-7) will have a rematch of a battle that saw both teams combine for 32 runs earlier this season.
In the first meeting between Evansville Mater Dei and Forest Park, the Wildcats defeated the Rangers 19-13. So far this season, the Rangers have only played one other sectional foe — they came away with a 2-1 home victory over South Spencer on Apr. 27.
NE Dubois, Class 1A at Tecumseh: The Jeeps (2-13) will face a tough task right away this postseason as they’ll battle host school Tecumseh for a spot in the title game. Tecumseh defeated Northeast Dubois 5-4 in the sectional title game last season.
The Jeeps and Braves will play tonight in Dubois. Northeast Dubois has yet to face any other sectional rivals this season.
Heritage Hills, Class 3A at UofE: The Patriots (13-3) will once again play their postseason games at University of Evansville’s Braun Stadium, hosted by Evansville Bosse.
Heritage Hills will face the winner of Bosse and Boonville in the sectional with a spot in the title game on the line. The Patriots defeated the Pioneers 3-0 earlier this year and also topped the Bulldogs, 10-0. The Patriots defeated all of their sectional foes except for Evansville Memorial.
