Bartley receives Legion scholarship

American Legion Post 147 of Jasper has awarded Isaac Bartley, senior at Jasper High School, a $1,000 scholarship for his outstanding performance during his Hoosier Boys State attendance as a junior in 2018. He is the son of Keith and Christy Bartley. Boys State Chairman Daniel Lawson presented the award during honors day on May 17.

Hoosier Boys State is a civics leadership program that simulates Indiana’s political process from the local to the state lever. Over the course of a week, junior-aged high school students from across Indiana, known as delegates, will actively work together to create a fictional, but functional state government while honing valuable leadership and organizational skills in the process.

The purpose of the program is to promote understanding about Indiana’s political process, the power of democracy and inspire leadership in our future leaders.

For further information on this and other children and youth programs offered by the American Legion Post 147, call Chairman, Daniel B. Lawson at 812-661-2440 or dble754@gmail.com. Specific information relating to Hoosier Boys State can be found at hoosierboysstate.org
