Balsmeyer named Firefighter of the Year

HOLLAND — Prestyn Balsmeyer, was named Firefighter of the Year by the Holland Fire Department during its 15th annual Dine and Dance on Feb. 15 in Ferdinand. He was presented the award by Fire Chief Adam Chambers.

Balsmeyer, 21, has been a member of the department for three years and was honored for going above and beyond when it comes to training and his willingness to learn from every situation in which he has been placed. In addition, he has attended the most calls for the department over the last year and assists with the department’s Junior Firefighter Program.

Several firefighters were recognized for the length of their service during the event: John Hemmer, 30 years; Adam Chambers, 15 years; Justin Frick, 10 years; and Tammy Marx, five years.
