Backpack Heroes seeking donations

JASPER — Youth Villages Indiana is looking for people to participate in its Backpack Heroes program to provide school supplies to needy children in Jasper and the surrounding area.

Youth Villages helps children who have experienced trauma or have a history of emotional or behavioral health issues so they can start the school year equipped to succeed. Necessary items are: #2 pencils; two-pocket folders; three-ring notebooks; calculators; colored ballpoint pens; colored construction paper; colored markers; colored pencils; crayons; glue and glue sticks; high lighters; wide-ruled loose leaf paper; notebook dividers; non-spiral bound notebooks; pencil boxes; large pink pearl erasers; plastic rulers; wide-ruled spiral notebooks; and thin-tipped markers.

Individuals, families or groups, such as businesses or church congregations, may participate as Backpack Heroes by stuffing a backpack themselves, donating any of the listed items or making a financial donation of any amount.

Donations can be dropped off at the Youth Villages office, located at 901 Newton St. in Jasper.
