Authorities plan statewide tornado drillMarch 5, 2020
From Local Sources
A statewide tornado exercise has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 18.
Indiana has designated March 15 through 21 as Severe Weather Preparedness Week in the Hoosier State in an attempt to stress the importance of promoting the public’s awareness of what actions to take in case of tornadoes and other types of severe weather.
In conjunction with the preparedness week proclamation, and in cooperation with the National Weather Service, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana State Police, a statewide tornado exercise is planned for approximately 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 18. Should actual severe weather be a threat that day, the exercise will be held March 19.
The exercise will be initiated with an announcement that a test tornado warning is about to occur.
Dubois County Emergency Management Agency Director Tammy Humbert says the goal is to prevent, if possible, or at least reduce the potential number of deaths and injuries from tornadoes and other severe storms this season.
