TERRE HAUTE — Officials at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute say authorities are investigating the death of an inmate there as a possible homicide.

Prison officials say 54-year-old Thomas Sim was found unresponsive in his cell on Thursday and he was pronounced death at a local hospital. A telephone message left Monday by The Associated Press for the Vigo County coroner seeking the cause of death was not returned.

Sim was convicted of bank robbery in Colorado and was serving a 19.5-year sentence. He had been an inmate in Terre Haute since June 24.
