LAMAR — Authorities have released the identity of the victim in a fatal accident Sunday morning south of Lamar.
Killed in the accident at State Road 245 and Spencer County Road 1200N that was reported just after 6 a.m. CT was Russell Pennington, 26, of Dale, according to the Spencer County Coroner’s Office.
An investigation revealed a vehicle being operated by Pennington left the roadway for an unknown reason. The car struck an electrical pole, flipped and ejected Pennington.
The coroner’s office said an autopsy revealed Pennington died of blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen. Toxicology results are pending.
Indiana State Police assisted the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department at the scene. The Spencer County Ambulance Service, Chrisney Volunteer Fire Department and the Santa Claus Volunteer Fire Department also assisted.
