Authorities hear of booming reports

JASPER — The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday that several reports of explosions being heard in the Huntingburg and Holland areas had come in to deputies and 911 center staff.

It is thought to be sounds from blasting that has been taking place from coal mining operations, according to the sheriff’s office, which advised the public to not be alarmed.

The sound is traveling farther and sounds stronger than normal due to weather conditions, the sheriff’s office said.
