ATV crash injures Huntingburg woman, Petersburg man

From Local Sources

PETERSBURG — A Huntingburg woman and a Pike County man suffered injuries in a Sunday night all-terrain vehicle crash east of Petersburg.

Terry Jones, 56, Petersburg, was operating a 2012 Honda TRX420 in the 2600 block of Pike County Road 475N at the time of the 8:19 p.m. accident, according to Department of Natural Resources conservation officers.

Jones’ ATV reportedly struck a dog, which caused Jones to lose control of the ATV that then rolled.

Conservation officers said Jones and his passenger, Candace Parks, 39, Huntingburg, were ejected.

Jones and Parks were flown by helicopter to Deacones Hospital in Evansville, according to authorities. Jones, who suffered serious bodily injuries, remained in critical condition Tuesday. Parks was treated and released, conservation officers reported.

No safety equipment was in use, according to investigators, and alcohol was believed to have been a contributing factor.

Conservation officers were assisted Sunday by the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, the Petersburg Police Department, Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department, Pike County Emergency Medical Services and AirEvac.

While reporting on the injury crash, conservation officers recommended the public always wear helmets on ATVs and always follow manufacturers’ recommendations for their operation.
