JASPER — The Astra Theatre will host noted film historian Eric Grayson at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, for a presentation titled “History of Color in Cinema.”
The presentation will feature the use of real film and antique projectors, will include a question and answer session with Grayson and is appropriate for all ages. He will provide examples of Kinemacolor, Technicolor, Kodachrome, Cinecolor, two-color Technicolor, Eastman color and others. The program is expected to run approximately 90 minutes.
Tickets for the event are $6 and available when the doors open at 5:45 p.m. or in advance at www.astratheatre.eventbrite.com.
Based in Indianapolis, Grayson is a consultant to the Library of Congress and owns an extensive collection of films and shorts, some from the 19th century, that are often the only known existing copy of the work. He is also involved in the restoration of films and recently completed the restoration of the famous 1954 Milan-Muncie Central state championship game, as well as the semi-final game from that same tournament featuring Milan and Terre Haute Gerstmeyer. He has also saved a 1918 film, “Little Orphant Annie,” featuring Colleen Moore and a cameo with James Whitcomb Riley.
Tickets are still available for today’s screening of “The Princess Bride,” Saturday’s “Rock Lotto” event, an intimate Saturday, Oct. 6, solo acoustic performance by Americana musician Pokey LaFarge and a Saturday, Nov. 3, acoustic trio performance by two-time Grammy winner Rodney Crowell.
