JASPER — Next Act Inc, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates the historic Astra Theatre in Jasper, released the second half of their 2019 season. This is the second season of entertainment to take place on the Jim and Pat Thyen Performance Stage in the theater since major renovations took place in 2017.
Tickets are on sale for each of these events at www.TheNextAct.org. An early bird discount of $5 for concerts, using code “AstraMusic,” and $2 for movies, using code “AstraMovie,” is available on all tickets purchased through July 31. Employees of all 2019 Business Members are eligible for an additional $1 discount on all tickets.
The band National Park Radio will leave the beauty of the Ozark Mountains behind for their concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. Reserved seating tickets on the main floor and balcony are $14.95 with a $29.95 VIP option. The VIP ticket includes preferred parking in the Matrix parking lot, a $5.00 concession voucher, and a 30 minute pre-show meet-and-greet with the artist.
Then, on Saturday, Sept. 14, travel through time while watching "Back to the Future" at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 each. This classic movie follows Marty McFly and his scientist friend Doc Brown on adventures in their DeLorean. Rated PG.
Nineties music fans will remember “The Freshmen," a hit song by The Verve Pipe. They will take the Astra stage at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. Reserved seating tickets on the main floor and balcony are $29.95 with a $44.95 VIP option, which includes preferred parking in the Matrix parking lot, a $5 concession voucher, and a 30 minute pre-show meet-and-greet with the artist.
For the third year, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," a cult-classic renowned for its audience participation, will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Once again, Astra-appropriate prop kits are available for $5 each, along with $5 general admission tickets. This film is rated R.
The Way Down Wanderers will once-again return to the Astra at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23. Their concert will showcase their distinctive sound, which draws on elements of bluegrass, classic rock influences and multi-part harmonies. Reserved seating tickets on the main floor and balcony are $14.95 with a $29.95 VIP option, which includes reserved parking, a pre-show meet-and-greet with the artist, and a $5 concession voucher.
Follow a young boy’s magical adventure to the North Pole on "The Polar Express." The Astra encourages attendees to this event to get in the spirit of the film by wearing their pajamas. General admission tickets are $5, with the featured film, rated G, scheduled for a matinee showing at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The season will wrap up on Saturday, Dec. 14, with a showing of "Christmas Vacation" at 7 p.m. This is the third season showing this holiday classic and moviegoers enjoy dressing in festive attire to fit the theme. General admission tickets are $5. Rated PG-13.
Additionally, in the heat of the summer, watch the competition get hot with the second annual Rock Lotto at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. The unique event will take 12 local musicians, divide them into three bands that will perform five songs each. General admission tickets are $10.
