Art workshops, classes announces

JASPER — Jasper Community Arts will host 12 art workshops this fall at its Satellite Art Space located in the lower level of the Jasper Municipal Swimming Pool building, or as otherwise noted.

The painting flowers in watercolor, pen and ink workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 1, 8 and 15. High school students and adults will learn how to paint flowers in a loose and joyful style. These are not technical renderings, but encourage the student to capture the impressions of flowers in bright watercolors with details added in pen and ink. It is open to all experience levels. Kit Miracle is the instructor. The cost of the workshop is $30.

Drawing trees with trees will be offered to adults between 6 and 8 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 1, 8 and 15. This workshop shows students how to use sticks and ink to draw landscapes outdoors. Students may return if they have previously attended the class. Color will be added this time. Attendees should bring a chair so they can set up anywhere. The class will take place at the pavilion at The Parklands. Bill Whorrall is the instructor. The cost of the workshop is $30.

A Halloween paint party will be offered to students in grades kindergarten through two from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. Create canvas creations to prepare for the haunting season. Corie Schwartz is the instructor. Cost is $12.

Beginning wheel throwing is being offered to high school students and adults from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6. The evening will be filled with clay, wheel-throwing and hand-building on the beginners level. Participants will learn wheel-throwing techniques and how to create three-dimensional forms. There is a limit of eight participants. The class will be instructed by Jen Tolbert. The cost of the workshop is $70, plus a $10 supplies fee.

Intermediate and advanced wheel throwing classes for high school students and adults will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6. Classes will be feature clay, wheel-throwing and hand-building on the advanced level. During this workshop, participants will learn wheel-throwing techniques and how to create more complex three-dimensional forms. Eight participants are the limit. Instructor is Tolbert. The cost of the workshop is $70, plus a $20 supply fee.

A pen and pink workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6. High school students and adults will deal with the use of pen, brush and India ink drawings. This could cover anything from cartooning to portrait to architecture renderings. The subject matter is endless. No experience is required. George Smith is the instructor. Cost is $60.

Guitar lessons for beginners, middle school students through adults, will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and Nov. 7, at the Jasper Arts Center. Participants will learn basic chords and strumming patterns for the complete beginner level; they need to bring their own guitar. Song choices will be based on participants’ music preferences. Instructor is Rafaela Schaick. The cost of this workshop is $30.

Storybook Shenanigans, offered to students in grades kindergarten through two, will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3. Crafts will be connected to stories read about fall. Schwartz is the instructor; cost is $12.

Portrait workshops are being offered to high school students and adults from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1 and 8. The workshop is about portrait subject matter in watercolor. It will deal with subject matter not just about the human form, but furry friends such as animals of all types in a series of paintings. No experience is necessary. Instructor is Smith; cost is $60.

A landscape painting class is offered to adults from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Oct. 6, 13 and 20, at the pavilion at The Parklands. As a beginner or experienced artist, learn more about composition and drawing techniques. Unique drawing tools and ink will be used; wear old clothes and a hat. Attendees are asked to bring a chair so they can set up anywhere. Whorrall is the instructor. The cost of the workshop is $30.
