Arrested man: Jesus directed me to borrow vehicle

From Local Sources

JASPER — A Jasper man detained another individual he found inside his pickup truck Tuesday evening until police could make an arrest.

The Jasper Police Department was called to the 3100 block of Lottes Drive at 6:21 p.m. after the resident called dispatch to report that, after work, he had found and detailed a man in the driver’s seat of his truck seemingly going through his belongings.

When officers arrived, Jerod T. L. Williams, 22, 3828 N. Portersville Road, the detained individual, allegedly advised he had been directed by Jesus to borrow the victim’s vehicle.

Police reported Williams appeared intoxicated and, during the arrest and booking process, was found to have personal property from the victim in his pocket.

Further investigation saw officers locating Williams’ vehicle, a 1998 Ford Contour, still running, parked snuggly against a business at the location. When the car was approached, police allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana and could see a marijuana grinder in plain view. While inventorying the car prior to it being towed, police reported locating marijuana.

Authorities booked Williams into the Dubois County Security Center at 9:21 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of attempted auto theft and preliminary misdemeanor counts of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
